International Team Takes Ryder Cup
The Provo Golf Club’s 20th annual Ryder Cup was won by the International team in a close 21-18 victory over the North American team.
The win increased the International team’s overall lead to 13-7. Team captains Will Shoreman and Louis Dickenson helped their team stage a comeback from an 8-5 deficit by running off eight consecutive single men’s points in the middle of Sunday’s play.
Sunday started very poising for the North American team, which was captained by Fraser Dodds and Terry Erskine. The teams ladies extended the first day’s lead to a full five points until the International team came roaring back by winning 14 of the 20 remaining single men’s matches to close out the victory.
The Provo Golf Club set a very challenging stage for players with strong winds left over from Hurricane Sandy, but both teams showed true love of the game and sportsmanship with high moral and a friendly competitive nature.
Director of Golf Dave Douglas said that this year’s Ryder Cup was well attended and very spirited.
“We would like to extend a very special thank you to long time sponsor Hugh G. O’Neill & Co. for their generous support in this years event,” Douglas said.
