Three TCI Residents Top UK’s 2013 New Years Honours List
Three outstanding Turks and Caicos citizens, Lillian Estelle Swann-Misick, Mary Doreen Missick, and Ian David Sargent have topped the UK’s official New Years Honour List for 2013.
These exceptional people are among the 1,068 candidates who have been selected in recognition for their outstanding work in their communities either in a voluntary or paid capacity.
Lillian Estelle Swann-Misick was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire). She was lately chair of the TCI Consultative Forum, and received her Honour for services to the reform of the TCI administration.
Mary Doreen Missick, a member of the Advisory Council, was awarded a MBE (Member of the British Empire) for her services to human rights and to the reform of the TCI administration.
Ian David Sargent, Superintendent of Prisons in the Turks and Caicos, was also awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) for his services to the development of the prison service in the TCI.
"These awards are made in recognition of the tremendous public service given by Lillian, Doreen and Ian," said His Excellency Governor Ric Todd. "Each in their own way contributes to making the TCI a better place in which to live and work. I am sure I speak on behalf of all Islanders when I say a heartfelt 'well done' and 'thank you' to all three."
Award recognition categories for the 2013 Honour List include Philanthropy, parliament, education, health, Industry and the Economy, Science and Technology, Law and Order and sport.
A New Year 2013 Special Honours List has also been published to recognise Olympians, Paralympians, and the most successful coaches, following Team GB’s unprecedented success at the London 2012 Games.
