Scotiabank - 30 Years of Service and a Prestigious Award

Scotiabank was named Bank of the Year for the sixth year in a row by Banker Magazine, an exciting recognition in the same month the bank celebrated 30 years of doing business in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Scotiabank, known then as the Bank of Nova Scotia, officially opened its doors as a retail bank on the island of Grand Turk on Nov 15, 1982, to much fanfare. Growing from just five employees when it opened its first branch, today Scotiabank has a staff of more than 100 in its three branches across the islands.

“We are extremely proud to be celebrating the landmark occasion of doing business for 30 years in the Turks and Caicos Islands,” says its country manager Cecil Arnold.

Today the bank has branches on Providenciales and Grand Turk and recently celebrated the placement of automated teller machines on the islands of North Caicos and South Caicos.

“We have not only grown in our commitment to the Turks and Caicos, we have been proud to serve our customers, many of whom have been with us since the beginning,” Arnold said.

On November 29th, Scotiabank received the award as Global Bank of the Year from The Banker magazine, a Financial Times publication. Scotiabank Turks and Caicos also received the honour of Turks and Caicos Bank of the Year for the sixth year in a row. Financial institutions are judged by The Banker on their ability to deliver shareholder returns and gain strategic advantage.

Scotiabank was also recognized by the magazine as Bank of the Year in Canada, Antigua, Barbados, Belize and the British Virgin Islands.
